Planning & Zoning

The Flathead County Planning & Zoning Office provides technical planning assistance to Flathead County.  We are administered by the Board of County Commissioners. Our primary responsibilities include assisting in all facets of long range Community and Neighborhood planning, Zoning Administration and Subdivision Review.  We also administer the Flathead County Lakeshore Protection Program and Flathead County Floodplain Program.  Our staff is available to talk about any aspect of development occurring in Flathead County.

Flathead County Planning Board and Board of Adjustment Meetings

We are meeting in person at the South Campus Building for the above mentioned county boards.  We are also offering a zoom option for those who would like to attend virtually.  For more information on how you can be a part of the meetings, please refer to agendas which can be found on the events within Board informaiton.

West Glacier Vision Plan

In October 2019, after more than a year of informal discussions, residents of the West Glacier area were awarded a Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) grant from the National Park Service.  After 14 additional months of neighborhood meetings, round table discussions, and talking to individuals, the West Glacier Vision Plan (draft) was developed.  Please take the time to review the draft by clicking here.  Comments on the draft may be submitted via email to planning.zoning@flathead.mt.gov or in writing at Flathead County Planning and Zoning , 40 11th Street West, Suite 220, Kalispell, MT 59901.

BIGFORK LAND USE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (BLUAC) POSITION OPENINGS

Two seats on the Bigfork Land Use Advisory Committee (BLUAC) are open for election on May 4, 2021.  The term is three years commencing June 1, 2021.

One seat on BLUAC is open for election on May 4, 2021.  The term is two years commencing June 1, 2021.

Election filing opens on December 10, 2020and closes on February 8, 2021.

 Interested parties must be residents and registered voters within the BLUAC jurisdiction for a minimum of two years.

BLUAC Member-at-Large Position Opening

Committee (BLUAC) will be appointed on May 27, 2021.  The term will expire on May 31, 2022.  Applicants must be residents and registered voters within the BLUAC jurisdiction for a minimum of two years.
