Mountain Climber goes to Bus Roadeo

At Mountain Climber, their mission is to provide safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to the residents of Flathead County. On September 21, two of their drivers, Shawn Long and Gerald Becker, embodied that mission by representing Flathead County at the 2024 Montana State Bus Roadeo in Butte, MT.

The Montana Transit Association (MTA), in partnership with the Montana Department of Transportation, holds this annual competition to promote the professional driving skills that keep Montana’s public transportation services safe. The event is more than just a competition—it’s a day where camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the pride of our work take center stage. Drivers from across the state test their knowledge and skill, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining the safety and dignity of Montana’s citizens on the road.

Mountain Climber is particularly proud to celebrate the accomplishments of Gerald Becker, who placed 3rd in this year’s competition. After completing a rigorous written test, pre-trip vehicle inspection, wheelchair securement demonstration, and navigating a challenging obstacle course, Gerald's skills earned him a top spot. Though only the 1st place winner moves on to the national competition, his achievement is one they’re incredibly proud of.

But Gerald didn’t stop there. This year, he was also honored with the Carey Pope Award, an accolade given annually to a Montana transit driver who exemplifies compassion, dignity, and respect in their service. To be recognized for such values is no small feat, and Gerald’s award reflects the heart and soul he puts into his work every day. His commitment to providing outstanding customer service is what makes Mountain Climber a standout in Flathead County.

As a team, they are motivated by the achievements of their drivers and the vital role they play in our community. The Roadeo is a reminder of the professionalism required in public transportation and the critical importance of safety, skill, and compassion in our work.

Mountain Climber looks forward to continuing to serve the Flathead community with the same level of dedication that Gerald and Shawn showed at the Roadeo. Congratulations to them both for representing Mountain Climber, and a special thank you to Gerald for his outstanding service and leadership.

The trusted employees at Mountain Climber move with pride, not just on the road but in the way they serve the people of Flathead County every day.
