Flathead County Gold Standard for Financial Reporting

Jonathan Mahrt of Denning, Downey & Associates today reported audit results for Flathead County’s Financial and Federal Fiscal Year of 2023 to the Board of Commissioners. “If we had any type of issues or weaknesses, we would report it. We are happy to report there are no audit findings to disclose,” concluded Mahrt. “Thank you for the help we received from your staff.”

The audit covered both the financial and federal aspects of the county, which is required by the State of Montana for a county of Flathead’s size. “Our opinion is an ‘unmodified’ which is the highest review we can offer. You passed with flying colors,” added Mahrt.

“Loss of public trust is always something of a concern for the commissioners. All county department heads and elected officials were involved and transparent with their reporting,” stated County Administrator Pete Melnick. “Our auditor said it was a ‘joy and a delight to do,’ and that Flathead County is the Gold Standard for Montana.”

Commissioner Pamela Holmquist added that the department heads are incredible with the small amount of funds given to them and the way they hold the line. “Our taxpayers should be very thankful for the team we have out there,” added Holmquist.
