About our office
The Flathead County Planning & Zoning Office provides technical planning assistance to Flathead County. We are administered by the Board of County Commissioners. Our primary responsibilities include assisting in all facets of long range Community and Neighborhood planning, Zoning Administration and Subdivision Review. We also administer the Flathead County Lakeshore Protection Program and Flathead County Floodplain Program. Our staff is available to talk about any aspect of development occurring in Flathead County. View pictures of our Staff.

Staff is involved with education, coordination and uses other tools and strategies to protect and maintain property values, public investment, the built and natural environment, and the general quality of life and community character for residents and visitors. In all work efforts, it is the responsibility of the FCPZ to:
A key component to all FCPZ activities will be to promote “transparent planning processes” involving staff and the public. Public engagement and buy-in at the very earliest opportunity should facilitate public acceptance and ownership of the final product. Staff should also feel ownership with work products. Staff must be flexible and innovative to meet the unique needs of a changing public.
FCPZ staff will strive to produce the leadership and creativity required to realize the department’s vision. To this extent all staff will be held accountable by his/her supervisor to maintain the high level of professional work ethic clearly demonstrated to date. Staff is also encouraged to constantly evaluate departmental operations by exploring new opportunities for streamlining processes and procedures and recommending better ways to do business.
