Subject: Support for Montana Ground Water Pollution Control System Permit MTX000307 for Lakeside County Water and Sewer District

Dear Water Protection Bureau,

The Flathead County Board of Commissioners strongly supports the issuance of Montana Ground Water Pollution Control System (MGWPCS) Permit MTX00307  to the Lakeside County Water and Sewer District (LCWSD) for the proposed Rapid Infiltration System.  This critical project, which authorizes the discharge of treated wastewater to groundwater, represents a significant advancement in managing wastewater treatment within the county.

Flathead County faces a pressing challenge with over 30,00 septic systems in operation.  The proliferation of the systems, combined with dwindling available land for ground application of treated wastewater, underscores the urgent need for sustainable and advanced wastewater treatment solutions.  By investing in innovative wastewater treatment technologies, LCWSD project ensures treated wastewater is managed efficiently effectively, safeguarding groundwater resources for current and future generations.

We are highly recommending the issuance of the MGWPCS permit to LCWSD and encourage DEQ to recognize the merits of this proposed facility.  This project is a vital step in addressing the environmental and infrastructural challenges  associated with wastewater management in Flathead County.

Thank you for your continued efforts to protect Montana's water resources.

Sincerely,

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
FLATHEAD COUNTY, MONTANA
