National 4-H Week: Building a Generation Beyond Ready
As we celebrate National 4-H Week from October 6 to 12, we shine a spotlight on the incredible impact that the 4-H youth development program has in our communities, both locally and across the nation. This year’s theme, “Beyond Ready,” is a testament to 4-H’s mission of equipping young people with the skills and confidence they need to thrive in a world of constant change.
Flathead County’s 4-H program exemplifies this mission, offering a variety of opportunities through its 23 different clubs located throughout Flathead County. For youth aged 5-18, 4-H is not just a club; it’s a chance to learn, grow, and build meaningful life skills. Montana 4-H provides nearly 200 project areas, ranging from livestock and small animal care to cooking, art, woodworking, welding, and so much more. These projects are designed to be hands-on, giving young people the chance to explore their interests while developing practical skills.
The benefits of participating in 4-H extend far beyond learning how to cook or raise animals. At its core, 4-H fosters a spirit of leadership, citizenship, and service, preparing young people to make positive contributions to their communities. Whether it’s through agricultural projects or initiatives focused on science, health, or civic engagement, 4-H youth are continually demonstrating what it means to be “Beyond Ready.”
This week, we have the chance to see 4-H participants across our county and state showcase how the program has shaped their growth and development. From building life skills to developing leadership qualities, 4-H empowers youth to become proactive, compassionate members of society.
As we celebrate this week, families are encouraged to consider joining this wonderful, community-driven program. 4-H offers a welcoming space for kids to explore their passions, meet new friends, and grow in ways that will positively impact them for a lifetime. If you’re curious about joining, mark your calendars for the 4-H New Family Orientation at the Kalispell Fairgrounds on Saturday, November 9, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This is a perfect opportunity to learn more about what 4-H can offer your family and how you can become a part of this beneficial group.
Let’s work together to build a generation that’s not just ready for the future—but beyond ready.
