NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Board of Commissioners of Flathead County, Montana, herby gives notice, pursuant to Section 76-2-205(1), M.C.A., that it will hold a public hearing to consider a request from the Flathead County Planning Board to amend the text of the Flathead County Zoning Regulations (FCZR). The proposed amendments are described as follows:
- Amend Section 5.07.010 to read:
3. Livestock and fowl in R-2.5 and R-1 residential districts are allowed only for domestic use or consumption and shall not be raised for commercial purposes.
4. The keeping or raising of pigs and swine is permitted temporarily in association with 4-H or similar projects and must be removed immediately after the conclusion of the fair. The keeping or raising of non-domesticated animals in areas zoned as suburban agricultural and residential is not allowed.
6. This Section shall not be deemed to allow the keeping of livestock on parcels where they are precluded by other text or ordinances.
- Amend Section 6.01.010 to read:
4. Fractional Measurements: When units or measurements determining the number of required off-street parking and off-street loading spaces result in a requirement of a fractional space any fraction shall be disregarded.
7. Shared residential, institutional, and commercial parking lots for a mixed-use building or lot shall be permitted and subject to the requirements of whichever are greater.
- Amend Section 6.01.020 to read: Off-street overflow/visitor parking shall be provided for multi-family housing developments, mobile home parks, and recreational vehicle parks. This overflow parking may be provided in parking modules throughout the development, as additional parking per unit or space, or in a single parking area. The amount of parking provided shall equal at least one (1) parking space for every six (6) living units/spaces.

- Amend Section 6.11.020 to read: Residential parking spaces shall be on the same lot as the main building. Parking for non-residential uses may be located up to 300 feet from the property.
The Flathead County Zoning Regulations apply in all County zoning districts created under Section 76-2-205, M.C.A., and are on file for public inspection at the Office of the Board of Commissioners, located at 800 South Main, Room 302 Kalispell, Montana, the Flathead County Planning and Zoning Office, 40 11th Street West, and on the Flathead County Planning and Zoning Office’s website at: https://flathead.mt.gov/department-directory/planning-zoning/documents-online. Documents related to the proposed amendments to the regulations are on file for public inspection at the Office of the Board of Commissioners and at the Flathead County Planning and Zoning Office.
The public hearing will be held on the 8th day of April, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers, Third Floor, Old Courthouse, Kalispell, Montana. At the public hearing, the Board of Commissioners will give the public an opportunity to be heard regarding the proposed change to the text of the Flathead County Zoning Regulations.
Written comments are encouraged and will be reviewed by the Commissioners prior to the hearing if received by the Flathead County Commissioners’ Office at least three business days prior to the hearing.
