  • Question: How do I identify which plants on my property are noxious weeds?
  • Answer:

Many publications are available for weed ID including Weeds of the West and many publications through Montana State University, along with several websites.  However, if you don't want to go that route, you can contact your local weed district professional to walk through your property with you.  This is free of charge from your weed district. (It's important to make appointments in advance). Call 758-5798.

  • Question: What chemical do I use for my noxious weeds?
  • Answer:

Because of the variety of herbicides available, differing soil conditions, and because of a variety of environmental conditions, it is best that you contact your local weed professional or weed district personnel to properly assess your weeds and identify the best options for your specific environment.

  • Question: What if I don't want to use chemicals, what are my options?
  • Answer:

A combined approach to weed control is usually the best option.  Because there are many options available, not all work for every noxious weeds. The Montana Weed Control Association's website has a section on intergrated weed management for more specific recommendations. mtweed.org
